Tinkers Clough

Tinkers Clough - a hidden treasure for all to enjoy

Tinkers 2.JPG

This delightful area of mixed woodland is in community hands through the efforts of Bollington Initiative Trust who acquired the Clough in December 2005. It had previously been well managed from 1983 to 1995 by the Groundwork Trust, but the pathways had then decayed and were becoming dangerous. BIT secured grants from the Lottery, Bollington Town Council, Cheshire East Council and WREN and in 2010 rotting paths were replaced by a single wide path and a bridge. It is a lovely green space and one which has been used by a growing number of local people.

“Thank you for all your hard work and vision for beautiful Tinkers Clough. Four generations of our family regularly spend time together enjoying this area and the changing seasons, that holds such vivid child hood memories for us all, including now our grandchildren. It was a joy to see families and all ages of the community benefiting from this magical clough especially over the lockdowns, thank you”

The Bollington Neighbourhood Plan produced a map of local wildlife sites and maps of habitat distinctiveness. Five areas were identified as local wildlife sites of high value, one of which is Tinkers Clough. Community feedback gathered for this Plan identified Tinkers Clough as an important open space for Bollington. BIT is proud to manage this site and provide access for all. The Clough is not only an important natural habitat for people to visit, it also provides a vital link between the Middlewood Way and the Macclesfield Canal towpath.

We are very grateful to the Kerridge Ridge and Ingersley Vale (KRIV) volunteers, who regularly visit to do much of the maintenance work necessary to preserve the natural habitat and maintain the paths. However, we are always looking for volunteers to help us with this and other projects. If you are interested in getting involved please contact Will Spinks on s.spinks1@ntlworld.com
